China has selected "Net" and "Funi" to provide Australian giant pandas.

    Cao Qingyao, spokesperson of the State Forestry Administration, said on September 12th, 2007 that according to the requirements of Australia and the need of cooperative research, a pair of giant pandas have been selected for Australia after careful selection by relevant experts organized by the State Forestry Administration. They are "Wangwang" and "Funi".


    Cao Qingyao said at a regular press conference held by the State Forestry Administration that on September 6th, during his visit to Australia, the President announced that at the request of the Australian government, the China government would provide a pair of giant pandas to Australia for cooperative research. This is a symbol of China-Australia friendship and cooperation in many fields.


    The State Forestry Administration has specially studied the work of selecting giant pandas, communicated with relevant parties in Australia, and reached an agreement.


    According to Cao Qingyao, the giant panda "Wangwang" is male and was born on August 31st, 2005. "Funi" is a female, born on August 23rd, 2006, all from China Research Center for the Protection of Giant Panda in Wolong, Sichuan. Traditionally, this pair of giant pandas and their descendants belong to China. The Australian side will provide support for the protection of Chinese giant pandas.


    Entrusted by the State Forestry Administration, china wildlife conservation association signed a cooperation agreement with Adelaide Zoo in Australia to carry out a 10-year cooperative study on giant panda protection. The Australian side has started preparations for the construction of the giant panda stadium. After the preparations for the venue construction are ready, the giant pandas "Net Net" and "Funi" will go to Australia as soon as possible.
