By the end of 2025, the utilization rate of municipal solid waste in China is expected to reach about 60%.

China news agency, Beijing, May 13 th The National Development and Reform Commission of China reported on the 13th that the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development had compiled the "Development Plan for Urban Domestic Waste Sorting and Treatment Facilities in the Tenth Five-Year Plan". According to the plan, by the end of 2025, the classification and treatment capacity of domestic waste in 46 key cities, including municipalities directly under the central government, provincial capital cities and cities with separate plans, will be further improved; A domestic waste sorting and treatment system has been basically established in prefecture-level cities according to local conditions.

This plan puts forward three specific goals: by the end of 2025, the utilization rate of municipal solid waste resources in China will reach about 60%; By the end of 2025, the capacity of classified collection and transportation of domestic waste in China will reach about 700,000 tons per day, which basically meets the needs of classified collection, classified transportation and classified treatment of domestic waste in cities at prefecture level and above; By the end of 2025, the incineration capacity of urban domestic waste in China will reach about 800,000 tons per day, and the incineration capacity of urban domestic waste will account for about 65%.

In the past five years, 46 key cities in China have carried out domestic waste sorting, demonstration and guidance, and the coverage rate of residential areas has reached 86.6%, and basically established a system of domestic waste sorting, collection, transportation and treatment. The national domestic waste sorting collection and transportation capacity is about 500 thousand tons per day.

However, the plan also points out that at present, there are still some problems such as insufficient treatment capacity, unbalanced regional development, hidden environmental risks of existing landfill facilities, and imperfect management system and mechanism.

This plan puts forward ten main tasks, including: accelerating the improvement of waste sorting facilities system, comprehensively promoting the construction of domestic waste incineration facilities, orderly developing the construction of kitchen waste treatment facilities, standardizing the construction of waste landfill treatment facilities, improving the recycling facilities of recyclable materials, strengthening the sorting and treatment of harmful waste, strengthening the capacity building of secondary environmental pollution prevention and control of facilities, carrying out key technology research and development and pilot demonstration, encouraging the coordinated disposal of domestic waste, and improving the capacity building of monitoring and supervision in the whole process.
